My name is Dr. Jodine Turner. I am a nurse with a Ph.D. in Stress Management. But more importantly, like you, I have faced surgery for breast cancer.
I know firsthand the anxiety and stress that can come with dealing with a cancer diagnosis and upcoming surgery. That’s why I developed Meditation for Pre-Surgery, a guided relaxation technique proven to help you feel calm, empowered, and prepared for your procedure. This method works successfully not only for pre-surgery, but in preparation for any medical procedure such as a breast biopsy.
I personally used this guided relaxation method before my breast biopsies as well as using it for two weeks before my surgery. It helped to greatly reduce my anxiety as well as promote optimal healing after my surgery. I want to offer you this same meditation technique so that you, too, can help yourself feel more relaxed and resilient.
This method is called Meditation for Pre-Surgery. Studies show that the guided imagery used in this technique can help you to:
Reduce pain.
Decrease anxiety.
Assist in optimal healing after surgery, helping you recover faster and more fully.
Increase comfort during medical procedures.
My voice will guide you for approximately 20 minutes in this pre-surgery relaxation program. The calming and comforting background music is overlaid with ocean and womb sounds and continues for an optional nearly 30 minutes after the guided meditation. This music has been hospital tested by Dr. Fred J. Schwartz, M.D., a recognized expert in the use of music to promote relaxation in the operating room.
Use this 20-minute relaxation program 1 – 2 times every day, for two weeks before your surgery to achieve maximum results. It is best used in a quiet place where you can be uninterrupted.
(DO NOT use while driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery.)
